Footnotes

One of the most frustrating deficiencies of MediaWiki software is that it lacks a simple system for in-text citations/references/endnotes and what not.

I created the following templates which can be incorporated into any space on the wiki.

Template:Ref and Template:Note are there do to the trick, you shouldn't need to mess with them. It is possible they will renumerate automatically as needed, but not sure.

Simply, provide these tags:

George W. Bush won the 2000 presidential election{{Ref|1}}.

Which would translate to: George W. Bush won the 2000 presidential election^{[1] (http://wiki.uscpublicdiplomacy.org/mediawiki/index.php/Help:Footnotes#endnote_1)}.

Write the concurring footnote in the Reference section as exemplified below:

References

# {{note|1}} Despite losing the popular vote.

which produces:

1. ^  Despite losing the popular vote.

NOTE: it doesn't matter what you put after | as long as it is the same in the ref as it is in the note.

Additionally, if "#" does not indicate the proper number, use that number instead of the symbol in the code.
